MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH: On Sept. 19 at 2:56 p.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to Smallwood Drive at Stone Avenue in Waldorf for the report of a motor vehicle crash. Investigation revealed a 2002 Nissan Altima was westbound on Smallwood Drive when it traveled over a slight grade in the roadway and bounced violently. The driver lost control, skidded off the right side of the road causing the drivers side to strike a tree. The Altima spun striking another tree head-on, bounced off the tree and came to rest in the middle of Smallwood Drive. The driver, a 16-year-old Pomfret boy, sustained incapacitating but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Civista Medical Center. The front seat passenger and the right rear seat passenger, both 17-year-old Waldorf boys, were not injured. The driver and both passengers were seat belted. Speed and driver error appear to be factors in the crash. The driver was issued citations for negligent driving and for the holder of a provisional license under 18 transporting passengers under the age of 18. Officer R. Glover, Jr., of the Traffic Operations Unit investigated.
