STRONG ARM ROBBERY: On Sept. 13 at 3:30 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to the parking lot of Sam's Club located at 2365 Crain Highway in Waldorf for the report of a strong arm robbery. Investigation revealed the victim, a 33-year-old Waldorf woman, was placing her grocery cart into the cart return area when she was approached by the suspect. The suspect grabbed the
victim's purse, dragging the victim until she let go. He fled the scene in a green mid-1990s four-door Cadillac last seen traveling south on Crain Highway. The suspect is described as a bald black male, 6 feet tall and approximately 30 years old. He was wearing a white shirt with a red collar. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff's Office at 301-932-7777. Officer J. Hastings is investigating.
HANDGUN VIOLATION: On Sept. 11 at 12:15 p.m., Cpl. D. Belfield of the Charles County Sheriff's Office conducted a commercial vehicle safety inspection on a tow truck at the Governor Harry W. Nice Memorial Bridge in Newburg. Investigation revealed the driver, Tony Mantz, 39, of Elberton, Ga., was carrying a loaded handgun in the truck. Mantz was arrested and charged with possession of a handgun in a vehicle. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the district court commissioner. The Charles County Sheriff's Office Traffic Operations and Community Policing units and the Maryland Transportation Police were conducting seatbelt safety checks at the time.
