Hate Crimes in Charles County Continue


HATE CRIME: On Sept. 10 at 9:45 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Zion Baptist Church located at 8105 Annapolis Woods Road in Welcome for the intrusion alarm. Officers discovered racial graffiti painted with orange spray paint as they were checking the church. One of the side doors and the back of a brick sign located in front of the church was painted with “KKK.” The front glass doors of the church had a large circular symbol and two other undetermined symbols. It was determined the graffiti was not there when a church representative left the building at 6:30 p.m. that day. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff’s Office at 301-932-2222. Officer J. McKenzie is investigating.

HATE CRIME: Sometime between 1 a.m. and 9 a.m. Sept. 9, suspect(s) spray painted two residences and a vehicle in the 3600 block of Mountain Ash Court in Waldorf with racial graffiti. The letters “KKK” were painted with white paint. Officers checked the area and recovered a white spray paint can that was submitted to the Forensic Science Unit for processing. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff’s Office at 301-932-7777. Officer K. Klezia is investigating.
