SMECO Expects All Power To Be Restored Today

As of 8 p.m. on Monday, September 4, Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) has restored service to nearly all customer-members who were affected by Tropical Depression Ernesto.

SMECO expects remaining customers to have their power restored tonight. Those affected include one customer in Scientist Cliffs in Calvert County and 15 customers at 12 locations in St. Mary’s County.

Trees and limbs on power lines caused the majority of the damage to SMECO’s electric system; broken poles also had to be replaced. Areas along the waterfront were most heavily damaged, and flooding delayed repair crews in some cases.

SMECO had restored power by Sunday evening to all known customer-members who were without power in Charles and Prince George’s counties. Repairs to two transmission circuits that were out of service were completed today.

Any customers who may be without power should call SMECO at 1-877-74-SMECO (1-877-747-6326) or 1-888-440-3311.
