SMECO Outage Updates

As of 10 a.m. on Monday, September 4, Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) has reduced the number of customer-members without power to less than 760 following the wake of Tropical Depression Ernesto.

• Number of customers affected in Calvert County: approximately 185 customers at 50 locations.

• Number of customers affected in St. Mary’s County: approximately 573 customers at over 200 locations.

SMECO had restored power by Sunday evening to all known customer-members who were without power in Charles and Prince George’s counties.

Any customers who are without power should call SMECO at 1-877-74-SMECO
(that’s 1-877-747-6326) or 1-888-440-3311.

SMECO is working to clear fallen trees and limbs that have interfered with our electric system, as well as perform conductor repairs. Trees and limbs weakened by Ernesto’s winds on Friday continued to fall on power lines over the weekend. Repairs to both transmission circuits that were out of service will be completed today.

In addition to SMECO’s line crews and contractor crews, the Co-op has received assistance from 60 more linemen and 38 additional pieces of equipment. These additional crews are focusing on restoring electric service to St. Mary’s County customers.

SMECO expects all customers to have power restored later today. A follow-up press release will be issued by 8 p.m. this evening.
