As of 11 a.m. on Sunday, September 3, Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) has reduced the number of customer-members without power to 4,093 following the wake of Tropical Depression Ernesto.
* Number of customers affected in Calvert County: approximately 919, concentrated in the southern portion of the county.
* Number of customers affected in Charles and Prince George's counties: approximately 82.
* Number of customers affected in St. Mary's County: approximately 3,092.
SMECO is working to clear fallen trees and limbs that have interfered with our electric system, as well as perform conductor repairs. Trees and limbs weakened by Ernesto's winds on Friday continue to fall on power lines. SMECO crews are working in every region of the service area, along with contractor crews and office personnel.
In addition to SMECO's line crews and contractor crews, the Co-op is receiving assistance from 60 more linemen and 38 additional pieces of equipment. These additional crews are focusing on restoring electric service to St. Mary's County customers on Sunday. Repairs will also be made to the two transmission circuits which are currently out of service.
All SMECO substations are energized.
