'Ernesto' Debris Pickup Program Announced for Charles County

The Charles County Commissioners just announced that they will initiate a program to assist residents in the coastal areas of Charles County with the removal of storm debris resulting from Tropical Storm Ernesto.

Beginning Tuesday, September 5, 2006, the Department of Public Facilities will collect storm-related debris only for the next two weeks free of charge from the affected low-lying areas along the tidal waters of the Potomac River, Port Tobacco River, and Patuxent River. Those areas include, but are not limited to: Port Tobacco, Cobb Island/Cobb Neck, Swan Point, Woodland Point, Popes Creek, Cuckold Creek, Banks O'Dee, Wicomico Beach, and Benedict.

Please call the Department of Public Facilities at 301-932-3440, Monday-Friday, from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m., to arrange for pick-up. Residents are to bring storm-related debris curbside to the County right-of-way. Please keep debris off the roadside. Vegetative "green" yard waste (limbs, branches, trees, etc.); dock lumber, pilings, bulkhead, and construction material will be accepted. Please keep green and construction debris separate. HOUSEHOLD TRASH WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
