The following information is current as of 10 a.m.

Tropical Depression Ernesto has moved north from the southern Maryland peninsula, and as of 10 a.m. Saturday, September 2, Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) has over 22,600 customer-members without power.

• Number of customers affected in Calvert County: approximately 9,000 concentrated in the southern portion of the county.

• Number of customers affected in Charles and Prince George’s counties: approximately 1,865 in 270 locations.

• Number of customers affected in St. Mary’s County: approximately 11,750.

Areas along the Potomac and Patuxent rivers and the Chesapeake Bay have been most dramatically affected. Damage to SMECO’s electric system includes broken poles, trees and limbs on power lines, and some underground cable failures.

In addition, two transmission circuits are out of service, but at this time transmission service to all substations has been restored by rerouting power via alternate lines.

SMECO crews are working in every region of the service area, along with contractor crews and office personnel.
