SMECO Outage Updates


The following information is current as of 9 p.m.

Tropical Depression Ernesto has pounded the southern Maryland peninsula since early this morning, and as of 9 p.m. Friday, September 1, Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) has over 22,000 customer-members without power.

• Number of customers affected in Calvert County: approximately 6,980.

• Number of customers affected in Charles and Prince George’s counties: approximately 2,200.

• Number of customers affected in St. Mary’s County: approximately 13,300.

Although additional transmission outages have occurred throughout the evening, at this time transmission service to all substations has been restored.

SMECO expects outages to continue until the weather subsides, but anticipates most customers will have power restored some time Saturday, with full restoration completed by Sunday night.
