County Government Advises St. George Island Residents to Prepare for Evacuation

The St. Mary's County Government issued the following advisory for residents of St. George Island at 11:40 a.m. today:

St George Island residents are encouraged to be prepared to evacuate due to rising flood waters at the island. If water levels reach an unsafe level at the Metropolitan Commission wastewater pumping station, SMECO may cut off all power to the island due to fire and electrocution hazards. If power is disconnected, residents are asked not to use their plumbing as the sewage grinder pumps serving their houses will not work.
