Fatal Accident in Calvert Leaves One Dead


On August 23 at 1:42 in the afternoon a 1994 Mercury station wagon driven by Wynona Dyer, 73, of Kensington failed to yield the right of way to a 1988 GMC van traveling northbound on Maryland Route 2/4 and H.G. Trueman Road. The driver of the Mercury was attempting to cross over northbound traffic lanes to make a left-hand turn onto southbound Md. Rt. 2/4 from HG Trueman Road when the collision occurred.

The front seat passenger, Mabel H. Poynter, 79 of Linthicum, was flown by Md. State Police Helicopter 7 to PG County Shock Trauma where she later succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision. The eight-year-old juvenile rear seat passenger was transported by Md. Park Police helicopter Eagle One to Children’s Hospital in Washington DC in stable condition. The nine-year-old juvenile rear seat passenger was transported to CMH by ambulance and was in stable condition. Both juvenile passengers are from Kensington.

The driver of the Mercury, Wynona Dyer, was injured in the crash and flown to DC MedStar. The extent of her injuries is not known. According to the investigating officer, DFC Paul J. Wood, no charges will be filed.

The driver and lone occupant of vehicle two, Damaris Baden, 45, of California was transported by ambulance to CMH where she was treated and released.
