Cops Nab Bank Robber After Citizen Tip


On August 18 at 3:17 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to a residence in the 11000 block of Weymouth Court in Waldorf after a citizen reported that a wanted bank robber was in the area. William Dillard Irby, who was wanted for robbing a Waldorf bank on Aug. 12, was found inside of a residence.

Irby was arrested and charged with armed robbery, robbery, first- and second-degree assault and theft valued at more than $500. Irby was wanted in Charles County for the robbery of Maryland Bank and Trust in Waldorf and the Aug. 17 robbery of County First Bank in St. Mary’s County. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the district court commissioner.
