BURGLARY: On Aug. 17 at 4:40 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Nicks of Clinton located at 3953 St. Charles Parkway in Waldorf for the intrusion alarm. Investigation revealed the suspect shattered the front window with a rock. Officers reviewed surveillance tape, which shows the suspect enter the business and run up an isle. The suspect then ran back out the front door and fled the scene. The suspect is described as a white male wearing a white shirt and blue jeans. He was carrying a red and black Nike gym bag. It does not appear anything was stolen from the business. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff’s Office at 301-932-7777. Officer K. RECOVERED STOLEN VEHICLE: On Aug. 16 at 8:30 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Sam’s Club located at 2365 Crain Highway in Waldorf for the report of a stolen vehicle. Investigation revealed the suspect stole the keys to a 2005 Chevrolet Envoy from inside an unattended shopping cart. The suspect then fled the area in the Envoy, which was equipped with an OnStar vehicle tracking system. Officers located the vehicle in Prince George’s County with OnStar’s assistance. The SUV was parked in the 3000 block of Hill Marr Drive in Suitland. Det. D. Gross conducted surveillance of the SUV and summoned the assistance of the Washington Area Vehicle Enforcement (WAVE) team. The suspect, a 17-year-old Capitol Heights boy, entered the vehicle and began to drive away but the detective and WAVE officers subsequently stopped and arrested him. He was charged with motor vehicle theft, unlawful taking, theft less than $100, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and theft more than $500 and was released to the custody of a parent.

ARMED ROBBERY: On Aug. 16 at 7:30 p.m., a 14-year-old Bryans Road boy was walking on the foot path near the tennis courts in the 5400 block of South Hampton Drive in Bryans Road when he was tackled from behind by three suspects and fell to the ground. One of the suspects brandished a handgun and demanded the victim’s cell phone. The victim complied and the suspects fled into the adjacent wooded area. The first suspect is described as a black male wearing a black ski mask. The second and third suspects are described as white males wearing black long-sleeve shirts and blue jeans. The second suspect was wearing an orange mask and the third was wearing a black mask. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff’s Office at 301-743-2222. Officer J. Timko is investigating.

MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH: On Aug. 16 at 7:33 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Trinity Church Road near Old Farm Place in Charlotte Hall for the report of a motor vehicle crash. Investigation revealed a 2004 Honda Civic traveling north on Trinity Curch Road struck the rear of a northbound Amish buggy. The operator of the buggy, Joseph Hertzler, 30, of Charlotte Hall, was ejected and struck the windshield of the Civic before falling to the pavement. Hertzler sustained non-life-threatening but incapacitating injuries and was flown by a Maryland State Police helicopter to Prince George’s Hospital Center in serious condition. The driver of the Civic, Lillian Komar, 62, of Charlotte Hall, was not injured. She was issued a traffic citation for failing to control speed to avoid a collision. The horse was injured and a family member walked it back to their farm. The buggy was destroyed on impact. Officer R. Glover of the Traffic Operations Unit investigated.

PROPERTY DESTRUCTION: Sometime between 4:30 p.m. Aug. 2 and 7 a.m. Aug. 3, suspects(s) poured sand or sugar into the gas tank of a passenger car, causing it to stall. The car was parked in the 6000 block of Black Bear Court in Waldorf. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff’s Office at 301-932-7777. Officer J. PROPERTY DESTRUCTION: Sometime between 8 p.m. July 22 and 5 p.m. July 23, suspect(s) spray painted the side of a residence in the 6000 block of Black Bear Court in Waldorf. The suspects spray painted curse words and other remarks. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff’s Office at 301-932-7777. Officer J.
