ASSAULT ON POLICE: On Aug. 14 at 8:40 p.m., Officer D. Walker of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop in the parking lot behind Korner Liquors located at 3120 Old Washington Road in Waldorf. After the officer made initial contact with the driver, John William Loar, III, 35, of Newburg, he fled on foot. Following a short foot pursuit, Loar was apprehended, but began to physically resist and fight with Officer Walker. He was subsequently subdued, arrested and charged with assault on police, resisting arrest, second degree assault, driving an uninsured motor vehicle, driving while suspended, driving an unregistered vehicle on roadway, displaying registration issued to another and fleeing and eluding. Loar was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the district court commissioner. Officer Walker sustained minor injuries and was treated and released.

BURGLARY: On Aug. 14 at 2:45 p.m., Officer A. Celia responded to Classic Auto Body located at 11725 Pika Drive in Waldorf for the report of a burglary. Investigation revealed suspect(s) forced entry into the lot behind the business by cutting the fence. The suspect(s) stole 20 to 30 aluminum wheels valued at $600 and fled the scene. The burglary occurred while the business was closed over the weekend. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff’s Office at 301-932-7777.

DRUG POSSESSION: On Aug. 7 at 5 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Target located at 3300 Western Parkway in Waldorf for the report of an armed subject. Investigation revealed a 15-year-old La Plata boy was found to be in possession of a green leafy substance. The substance was determined to be fake, but was being sold by the suspect as marijuana. Officers found a handgun hidden in a trash can inside of the business. The boy was arrested and charged with possession with the intent to distribute fake drugs, drug trafficking with a firearm and possession of a handgun. He was being held at Cheltenham Youth Facility pending an appearance before the juvenile court. Officer R. Kimble investigated.
