According to the Charles County Sheriff's Department, for the past month, Cpl. D. Belfield has been investigating a series of thefts from the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department (VFD). The VFD is located at 3245 Old Washington Road in Waldorf. The thefts took place between April 2004 and June 2005.
During the investigation he received information indicating Kevin Theodore Young, 46, of Waldorf was in possession of the stolen property. Cpl. Belfield obtained a search warrant. A subsequent search of Youngs residence yielded numerous pieces of firefighting equipment including self-contained breathing apparatus, a generator, lights, radios, chargers, door entry tools (Hydraram) and a water shut off key. The property is valued at more than $20,000. Also, recovered were tires that were stolen from Tires Plus located at 92 Smallwood Drive in Waldorf.
On Aug. 7, Young was arrested and charged with four counts of theft more than $500 and one count each of theft less than $500 and theft scheme over $500. He was released from the Charles County Detention Center on his personal recognizance. A search of the Maryland Judiciary Case Search database revealed that Young has had no prior cases filed against him as far back as 1970.
At the time of the thefts, Young was an employee of Tires Plus and a member of the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department. He is no longer affiliated with either organization.
