7 St. Mary's Alcohol Vendors Fail Underage Compliance Check


On 07/22/2006 between the hours of 1000 and 1900, the Alcohol Coordinator for The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, SDFC Emory Johnson, along with St. Mary’s Deputy First Class Charles Earle and a confidential informant conducted a Controlled Buy operation for the sale of alcoholic beverages to a person under the age of twenty-one. The confidential informant, armed with a valid Maryland drivers license clearly indicating that he was under the age of twenty-one, was instructed to enter the establishment pick out an alcoholic beverage and attempt to pay for it and leave. The informant was also instructed to enter bars and restaurants and sit at the bar or a table and order an alcoholic beverage.

The operation was conducted at sixteen various establishments in the county. Civil citations for providing alcoholic beverages for consumption to a person known to be under the age of twenty-one were issued at the following establishments:

- St. Mary’s Landing in Charlotte Hall,
- Club 911 in Mechanicsville,
- Hill’s Country Store in Helen,
- Clarke's Landing in Hollywood,
- The Early Bird in Hollywood,
- Back Roads Inn in Compton, and
- Fitzie’s Marina and Pub in Leonardtown.

The following establishments were also targeted but refused to sell to an under aged person:

- Drag "N" Inn,
- The Mouse Trap,
- Sand Gates Inn,
- Seabreeze Restaurant,
- Boatman’s Mini Mart,
- The Hole In The Wall,
- Toot’s Bar,
- Dew Drop Inn, and
- Dennis Point Marina.
