Body of Virginia Resident Recovered from Severn River

ANNAPOLIS—Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) recovered the body of 24-year old Daniel Eric Pemsler of Arlington, Virginia in the upper Severn River near Lakeland Drive in Severna Park.

Pemsler was recovered by NRP and Charles County Volunteer Fire and Rescue personnel on Sunday, July 23, at 6:00 p.m., and then transported to the State Medical Examiners Office in Baltimore for an autopsy.

Saturday evening, a vessel was towing Pemsler on an aqua plane. Pemsler was in the water waiting to be picked up by the vessel when another vessel struck him. Pemsler disappeared from the surface of the water. The search for Pemsler started Saturday evening after a 911 call was place to report the incident. NRP searched until 11:30 p.m. and resumed their search at 6:20 a.m. on Sunday. Two side scan sonar units, one from Anne Arundel County Fire Department and one from Charles County Volunteer Fire and Rescue, were used throughout the day to locate Pensler.

The NRP also received assistance from the U.S. Coast Guard.
