July 10, 2006 @ 1812 p.m. TFC Stevenson was on routine patrol on eastbound Route 228 at Streamview Drive, Waldorf, when he observed the operator of a red Toyota Tercel not restrained by a seat belt. TFC Stevenson activated his emergency equipment to conduct a traffic stop. Upon contact with the driver, Benjamin Raphael Carter, 24 years, of Waldorf, TFC Stevenson detected a strong odor of marijuana emitting from within the vehicle. A probable cause search was initiated which produced 1.2 grams of marijuana. Carter was placed under arrested and charged with possession of marijuana. He was incarcerated in the Charles County Detention Center pending a bond review. Trooper First Class C. Stevenson conducted this investigation.
July 13, 2006 @ 0234 a.m., Trooper Hill was on routine patrol on northbound Old Washington Road when he observed the operator of a black Chevrolet Avalanch cross the center line on two occasions. Trooper Hill stopped the vehicle for the traffic violation. Upon contact with the driver, Joshua Matthew Gleason, 25 years, of Waldorf, Trooper Hill detected a strong of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. When the driver exited his vehicle for a field sobriety test, Trooper Hill observed in plain view, one clear plastic baggie containing numerous small pills fall from the lap of the driver. The plastic baggie contained suspected MDMA (Ecstasy). Gleason performed poorly on all roadside sobriety test and was placed under arrest.
A check through MVA revealed that Gleasons driving privilege was suspended through Maryland. Gleason received several traffic citations and was also charged with Possession of CDS not marijuana and Possession of CDS paraphernalia. He was incarcerated in the Charles County Detention Center pending a bond review. Trooper R. Hill conducted this investigation.
