Program will provide a grant of up to $15,000 toward down payment and/or closing costs for County Employees
On Tuesday, June 13, 2006, the Board of Commissioners for St. Mary's County officially signed a resolution partnering with the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, to implement its version of the states' House Keys 4 Employees Program (HK4E).
"This program reduces the financial impact of homeownership for St. Mary's County employees," stated Thomas F. McKay, President, St. Mary's County Board of Commissioners. "It shows there is a need and addresses it."
The House Keys 4 St. Mary's County Program (HK4SMC) is a homeownership and mortgage assistance program, matched by the state, to assist eligible employees of the St. Mary's County Board of Commissioners, St. Mary's County Library Board of Trustees, St. Mary's County Board of Education and volunteers of Fire, Rescue and Advance Life Support (ALS) units.
HK4SMC assists eligible SMC employees purchase a home in St. Mary's County by financially contributing a grant of $5,000 toward down payment and/or closing costs. Through a combination of County and State funds eligible SMC employees could receive $15,000 toward the costs of purchasing a home in St. Mary's County.
