The Naval Facilities Engineering Command awarded John C. Grimberg Co., Inc. a $6.1 million contract on June 28 for design and construction of test facilities for NAVAIRs P-8A Multi-mission Maritime Aircraft Program at Naval Air Station Patuxent River.
This facility at Patuxent River will provide the necessary infrastructure to support the P-8A test and evaluation efforts of our integrated test team, said Capt. Joe Rixey, NAVAIRs Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircraft program manager. This building will be an integral part of the programs future as we prepare P-8A MMA for introduction into the fleet.
This is the first of two projects that together will support the maintenance testing and instrumentation needs of the P-8 MMA program. This contract will provide a new building that will house engineering offices, maintenance and telecommunications rooms.
A groundbreaking will take place later this summer at Pax River with work expected to be completed next summer.
The P-8A MMA is the Navys replacement for the P-3C Orion. Currently in the detailed design phase of system development and demonstration, the P-8A Program is on schedule and budget to deliver next-generation warfighting capabilities in anti-submarine warfare as well as anti-surface warfare, and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.
