MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH: On June 26 at 2:13 p.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to Mitchell Road at Linden Farm Place in La Plata for the report of a motor vehicle crash. Investigation revealed a 2003 Ford Explorer operated by a 16-year-old La Plata girl was traveling north on Mitchell Road when she lost control rounding a curve, overcorrected and crossed the center line, striking a southbound 1995 Mercury Villager head-on. The 17-year-old La Plata girl driving the Mercury was trapped and had to be extricated from her vehicle. She was transported to Prince Georges Hospital Center with incapacitating but non-life-threatening injuries. The 16-year-old was not injured. The crash occurred during a heavy rain shower. Officer R. E. Glover, Jr., of the Traffic Operations Unit is investigating.
POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA: On June 23 at 9:41 p.m., Officer R. E. Glover, Jr., of the Charles County Sheriffs Offices Traffic Operations Unit was operating stationary radar in the 6300 block of Olivers Shop Road in Bryantown when he stopped a 1997 Toyota Camary for speeding. Investigation revealed the driver of the vehicle, Brian Joseph Hammond, 21, of La Plata, was driving on a suspended license. He was placed under arrest and a subsequent search of his vehicle revealed Hammond to be in possession of marijuana. He was charged with possession of marijuana, driving while suspended and speeding and released on personal recognizance.
DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY: On June 17 at 7:35 p.m., Officer P. McDonald of the Charles County Sheriffs Office responded to the parking lot of Sport & Health located at 50 Post Office Road in Waldorf for the report of the destruction of property. Investigation revealed a suspect forcibly entered a Ford truck and stole a wallet, cell phone, 18-V hand drill, music CDs and cash. The suspect is described as a short white male, 20 to 35 years of age and 150 pounds. He was last seen in a brown or tan older-model vehicle.
