5 St. Mary's Liquor Stores Sell to Underage Agent


Attempts to obtain alcoholic beverages were made at seventeen establishments. Five of the establishments sold to a person known to be under twenty-one

On Saturday 06/10/06, an Alcohol Compliance Check/Underage Alcohol Controlled Buy Operation was conducted by the St Mary's County Sheriff's Office. Senior Deputy First Class Emory Johnson and Deputy First Class Charles Earle along with a twenty year old confidential informant attempted to make purchases at alcohol establishments in St. Mary's County. The confidential informant was in possession of a valid Maryland drivers license which stated in red beneath the photograph on the license " under twenty-one alcohol restricted". The informant was instructed to present the identification when asked and to make no false statements about her age.

Attempts to obtain alcoholic beverages were made at seventeen establishments with five of the establishments furnishing an alcoholic beverage to a person known to be under twenty-one. The establishments that successfully passed the compliance check were: Potomac Gardens, Murphy's Town and Country Market, Chaptico Market, Stones Store, Fred's Liquors, New Market Texaco, The Mouse Trap, DJ's One Stop, Boatman's Mini Mart, Third Base, Out Back Steak House, and Bay Country Liquors.

The establishments that failed the compliance check were: Capt. Sam's, Village Liquors, Light House Liquors, Korner Karryout, and Donovan's Pub. The employees that illegally sold alcoholic beverages to the underage informant were issued civil citations and the establishments that failed the compliance checks will be brought before the Alcohol Board for St. Mary's County.
