Detectives from the St. Mary's Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI)
continued the investigation into an assault that took place at Toots Bar in Sandy Bottom. The detectives applied for, received, and executed five Search and Seizure Warrants. The warrants were executed on the homes of three members of the Iron Horsemen Motorcycle Club and their "Club House." The warrants were served by members of the St. Mary's County Emergency Services Team, Charles County Emergency Services Team, Calvert County Emergency Services Team and the Maryland State Police S.T.A.T.E. Team. There were no injuries as a result of the entries.
BCI, assisted by the Charles County Sheriff's Office, Maryland State Police Organized Crime Unit, Calvert County Sheriff's Office and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) conducted the pre-dawn raids at locations in Charles and Calvert Counties. Numerous items of potential evidence were seized to include photos, Iron Horsemen paraphernalia and clothing, records and receipts, firearms and counter surveillance measures presumedly aimed at Law Enforcement.
In 1997 two members of the Iron Horsemen were implicated in a murder that
occurred at the Mouse Trap bar in Mechanicsville. More background information on
the Iron Horsemen and Biker Clubs in southern Maryland can be found in this
2003 article from the Washington Post.
The investigation is still ongoing and all involved jurisdictions are working together to obtain additional evidence and information.
