On June 1 at 4 p.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to Soccer Plus at 12118 Ell Lane in Waldorf for a report of an attempted armed robbery. Investigation revealed Lawrence Anthony Rogers, 36, of no fixed address entered the store and asked the employee, a 31-year-old woman, questions about the operation of the business. Rogers gave her a note indicating a robbery and demanding money. The employee moved away from him and he fled the store. Rogers then entered Chesapeake Quilt at 12114 Ell Lane and began looking around the store. An employee, a 66-year-old woman, saw the note indicating a robbery and the suspect left the store. He returned to Soccer Plus and tried to get into the business but the victim had locked the door and refused to let him in. Rogers fled the scene again.
While officers were at the businesses investigating the incident, Rogers was seen walking in the area and was detained by officers. He was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted armed robbery and is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner. Officer E. Starcher investigated.
