Law enforcement of Calvert County will soon be receiving the flame in the annual Special Olympics Maryland Torch Run from St. Mary's County law enforcement participants, ensuring its safe passage to the 2006 Southern Maryland Summer Games.
On Tuesday, June 6th, officers from the Calvert County Sheriff's Office, the Calvert County Detention Center and the Maryland State Police Barrack "U" Prince Frederick will be out in force, running and cycling to continue the relay of the flame. The relay ensures the flame is protected until it is delivered to the waiting hands of the athletes on Friday, June 9th, at the opening ceremony of the Southern Maryland Summer Games held at Towson University in Towson, Maryland.
The runners and cyclists of Calvert will begin their part of the relay in Solomons at 9:00 a.m. and finish in Prince Frederick. Calvert County law enforcement will then pass the flame on to participants from Charles County.
