Indian Head Traffic Stop Turns Violent

On May 26 at 8:54 a.m., Officer C. Shaw conducted a traffic stop at the Shell gas station on Indian Head Highway near Lower Wharf Road in Indian Head. The driver, James Daryl Thompson, 24, of Indian Head, was initially stopped for an inoperative brake light. Thompson exited the vehicle and was told several times to get back into his vehicle but did not comply. Officers then attempted to take him into custody; Thompson resisted and was pepper sprayed. He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, failure to display license on demand, failure to display registration on demand and safety equipment repair order for the brake light. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner.
