Hoyer Expresses Concern Over 2007 Budget Process

Hoyer: “The American People Are Not the Only Ones Rejecting Republican Policies – So Are Republicans”

WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the Republican leadership pulled consideration of the Fiscal Year 2007 Budget Resolution from Floor consideration for the second time this year:

“After pulling the Budget Resolution from floor consideration for the second time in a month, one thing is abundantly clear: House Republicans are deeply divided, in disarray, and failing to get the job done for the American people.

“House Republicans are now on the cusp of failing to meet the most basic responsibility of governing – enacting a budget. The truth is, the American people are not the only ones who are rejecting the Republican Party’s policies – so are some Republicans. After years of helping their party and president dig a massive fiscal hole, some Republicans are now running scared that their misguided policies will finally catch up to them at the ballot box this November.

“This Budget Resolution and yesterday’s tax bill are just the latest unfair and fiscally irresponsible Republican economic policies. Republicans cannot escape responsiblity and accountability for their fiscal failures.”
