On May 3 at 11:49 p.m., Cpl. W. Welch of the Charles County Sheriff's Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a possible intoxicated driver on northbound Mattawoman Beantown Road at Substation Road in Waldorf. The Chevrolet S10 pick-up failed to stop and fled into Prince George's County on Route 301. Officers deployed stop sticks which caused the passenger side tires to deflate. The vehicle continued to flee and struck a vehicle which was stopped at the traffic light at Branch Avenue and Surratts Road in Clinton. The pick-up then pulled into a parking lot where the driver fled on foot. An officer deployed a taser, but the suspect was able to break free and was then apprehended by a K9 unit.
The driver of the Chevrolet was identified as Marcel Aparicio Soria, 29, of Waldorf. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and numerous other traffic offenses. Soria is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner. The occupants of the vehicle struck at the traffic light were not injured. Cpl. W. Welch investigated.
