Fatal Motorcycle Accident on Gunston Road in Welcome

On April 25 at 8:52 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the 8900 block of Gunston Road in Welcome for the motorcycle crash. Investigation revealed Kevin Ashely Carpenter, 25, of La Plata was working on a 1979 Yamaha 750 motorcycle at a residence when he took the motorcycle for a test drive and lost control. The motorcycle left the right side of the road and struck a large stump. A citizen attempted CPR prior to officers’ arrival but was unsuccessful. Carpenter was pronounced dead on the scene by EMS personnel due to severe head trauma. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. This is the 12th fatality this year from 11 crashes. Officer R. Taylor of the Traffic Operations Unit is investigating.
