The Center for Abused Persons, Charles County Sheriff's Office, Charles County State's Attorney's Office, Charles County Commissioners, victim advocates and citizens will gather April 25 to honor victims of crime during an annual candlelight vigil. The event will be held at the Charles County Courthouse, located at 200 Charles Street in La Plata, at 7 p.m.
The event's theme is "Strength in Unity," which signifies the united efforts that support Crime Victim Rights Week's goal to assist victims of crime and their families in coping with the aftermath of a crime. National Crime Victims Rights Week is being observed from April 23 to April 29. During this week, crime victims, survivors and victim services providers will join together across America to promote victims' rights and services and to educate communities about the devastating impact of crime on victims, neighborhoods, schools and our nation as a whole as part of this national observance.
The southern region memorial service for victims of crime will be held April 23 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Elks Lodge #2620, located at 1015 Dares Beach Road in Prince Frederick. For information about the memorial service, call the Governor's Office of Crime Control and Prevention at 1-877-687-9004.
