Head-on on MD 425 Leaves One Dead, Several Critical


At 03/27/2006 8:10 a.m., a 1990 Ford Taurus station wagon being operated by Paula Marie Flathman, 33 years, of Indian Head, was traveling southbound on MD Rt. 425, south of Bicknell Road. For unknown reasons, the Flathman vehicle crossed the center line and struck a 2004 3500 Diesel Max commercial vehicle being operated by John Michael Hunt, 50 years, of La Plata, head-on. Mrs. Flathman was not wearing her seat belt at the time and was pronounced dead on the scene. Two children in the Flathman’s vehicle, Christen A. Flathman, 4 years, and Mark J. Flathman Jr., 6 years, both of Indian Head, received incapacitating injuries and were flown to Children’s Hospital by Maryland State Police helicopter, Trooper 2. Both children are listed in critical condition. Mr. Hunt and his passengers, John Michael Hunt Jr., 21 years, of La Plata, and Michael Lewis McGuigan, 21 years, of Pisgah, received incapacitating injuries and were transported to Civista Medical Center by ambulance. TFC J. Zimmerman of the Maryland State Police Crash Team is conducting this investigation.

UPDATE 28-MAR-2006: Christen A. Flathman, 4 years, of Indian Head, died at 6:24 p.m. on March 27, 2006 at Children’s Hospital. Christen was flown to Children’s Hospital following a collision where she was a front seat passenger in a vehicle traveling southbound on MD Rt. 425, south of Bicknell Road. Her mother died on the scene and her brother is still listed in critical condition.
