On March 3 at 2:39 p.m., Officer Paul Faucheux, 38, was traveling north on Acton Lane in Waldorf while responding to an emergency call for a personal injury crash with his lights and sirens activated. As he began crossing Crain Highway, a Charles County Public Schools bus that was traveling north on Crain Highway struck his cruiser.
Officer Faucheux was flown by a Maryland State Police helicopter to Prince George's Hospital Center, for injuries that were incapacitating but not life threatening. There were 34 students from Westlake High School on the bus at the time of the crash. Three of the students sustained minor injuries and were transported by ambulance to Civista Medical Center in La Plata. The remaining 31 students and the driver of the school bus, Bonnie Ann Carpenter, 34, of La Plata, were transported by another school bus to Civista Medical Center for check-ups as a precaution that is routine procedure for Charles County Public Schools.
Officer S. Stanley of the Traffic Operations Unit is investigating the crash.
