19 Y/O Picks Bad Time to Rob Charlotte Hall Arbys


On February 28th 2006, BCI Detectives were conducting follow up interviews in the Charlotte Hall area related to an Armed Robbery at the Burger King that occurred on Feb 25, 2006. While the detectives were in the immediate area, a 911 call was dispatched for an Armed Robbery in progress at the Arbys. A BCI Detective arrived on the scene and witnessed the latter portion of the robbery. The Suspect was armed with a .25 caliber handgun. He fired one round through the ceiling of the establishment and fled the scene. The Detective gave chase. A perimeter was established and assistance was summonsed.

Additional Detectives, Patrol Officers from the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office, Charles County Sheriff's Office, Maryland State Police, Trooper 2 and K-9 Officers from both St. Mary's and Charles County Sheriff's Office, arrived on the scene. Traffic leading out of the County was stopped and a cursory search was conducted. Sheriff's Office K-9s "Slouber" and "Roni" continued tracking the suspect with air cover from Maryland State Police Trooper 2.

K-9 Roni and Slouber located the Suspect, who was still armed, in a thick bush area of the woods. Officers attempted to apprehend the Suspect and a struggle ensued. The K-9 was released to help subdue the Suspect. Detectives took custody of the Suspect, identified as Auntonio Ronale Banks (Age 19 of no fixed address), the loaded handgun, and more than $1,000.00 in cash.

Suspect Banks was transported to St. Mary's Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and then released. Detectives determined that Mr. Banks was also responsible for the Armed Robbery at the Burger King that occurred on February 25th, 2006. Mr. Banks was charged with Armed Robbery, theft over $500.00, and First and Second Degree Assault for his role in the Burger King Armed Robbery. For the Armed Robbery at the Arbys he was charged with Armed Robbery, Reckless Endangerment, First and Second Degree Assault and Theft over $500.00. Mr. Banks is currently awaiting a hearing before the District Court Commissioner.

UPDATE:

Detectives continued the investigation related to the recent Armed Robberies in the Charlotte Hall area. Detectives found that the money recovered from Suspect Banks was not all accounted for at the time of his arrest. Detectives formed search teams and scoured the area. The daytime search yielded additional evidence to include more than $2,200 in cash and clothing items worn by the Suspect. Suspect Banks is being held on $75,000.00 (100%) bond. Additional charges are pending a Grand Jury and State’s Attorney review.

The St. Mary’s County Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) is an investigative team comprised of Detectives from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office and the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack. The unit was established on July 1, 2003 and is based in Leonardtown, Maryland.
