On Feb. 26 at 1:20 a.m., Officer D. Sauve was conducting a traffic stop when he observed a fight in progress in the parking lot of Southern Maryland Realtors, located at 8460 Leonardtown Road in Hughesville. He then saw someone in the back of the crowd point a handgun in the air and begin to fire. The officer took cover behind the vehicles in the parking lot and began approaching the area where the shots had been fired. The crowd quickly dispersed and no one was apprehended or injured.
Investigation revealed a group of approximately 200 people had gathered at the building for a "go-go" to listen to bands and DJs. Officers recovered several shell casings from the scene. Further investigation revealed the host of the event had asked to rent the facility for a birthday party.
