Two More Drug Arrests in Charles County


POSSESSION OF CDS: 02/25/06 4:34 p.m. Two vehicles were observed traveling northbound on MD Rt. 5 north of Forest Park at a high rate of speed. The vehicle entered the parking lot of the Dash Inn at the corner of MD Rt. 5 and MD Rt. 205. One vehicle stopped at the gas pump and the other drove through the parking lot and onto MD Rt. 205. As TFC R. Lemerise followed the vehicle, he observed a clear plastic baggie come out of the passenger's window. TFC Lemerise stopped the vehicle and when his backup arrived, the backup picked up the baggie and observed it to be suspected marijuana. Upon contact with the driver, Thomas Jerome Hobbs Jr., 20 years, of Waldorf, a strong odor of burnt marijuana was emitting from the vehicle. A K-9 scan revealed suspected marijuana in the vehicle. Mr. Hobbs and his passenger, Melvin Donald Cutchember, 19 years, of Waldorf, were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. They were incarcerated in the Charles County Detention Center pending a bond review.

POSSESSION OF CDS: 02/27/06 10:10 a.m. A vehicle traveling eastbound on MD Rt. 228 at MD Rt. 229 was stopped for the tags being expired. Upon contact with the driver, Jazmine Bianca Smith, 18 years, of Washington, DC, a strong odor of burnt marijuana was emitting from the vehicle. A probable cause search revealed suspected marijuana. Ms. Smith was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and incarcerated in the Charles County Detention Center pending a bond review. TFC S. Murphy conducted this investigation.
