Annual Banquet Honors Charles County Correctional Officers

The Charles County Correctional Officers Association held its annual appreciation banquet to honor members and associates on Jan. 27, 2006 at the La Plata Volunteer Fire Department.

The event gives the CCCOA the opportunity to recognize the dedication to duty of its members and the charitable causes the organization is involved in throughout the year. This year, the CCCOA welcomed as its special guest Capt. Thomas D. Reece, who recently retired from the Sheriff's Office as the commander of the custody and security section after more than 20 years in the Corrections Division. The association presented Capt. Reece with a United States flag that had been flown over the Capitol building and monetary donations collected from CCCOA members.

Sheriff Frederick E. Davis, Major Michael O'Toole, Capt. Timothy Plumer, commander of the Sheriff's Office Corrections Division, and Capt. Dennis Burks, commander of the Southern Maryland Criminal Justice Academy, joined more than 130 correctional and patrol officers, county government officials and associates for the celebration.

The CCCOA is a non-profit organization comprised of Charles County Correctional Officers who, in addition to their law enforcement service, work with numerous businesses and charitable organizations to help better the community. Their motto is, "Many Hands, Many Minds, One Goal." The Association participates in Adopt-A-Highway and supports the Children's Aid Society. The Association has also collected, packaged and shipped hundreds of items for the nation's men and women in combat, with support of AnySoldier.com and UPS of La Plata. Correctional Officer John M. Greer serves as the Association's president. The Association's social committee, including Correctional Officers Ryan Ross, chairman, Sean O'Hara and Mike Keeler, and Correctional Officers First Class Stacy Reynolds, Chris Davis and Jennifer Scholtz, organized the banquet.
