Charles County Police Reports


MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT: Sometime between 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Feb. 6, suspects(s) stole a 1996 white Dodge Ram 1500 from the parking lot behind Hotel Charles located at 15110 Burnt Store Road in Hughesville. The truck bears Maryland tag 13S714. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff's Office at 301-932-7777. Officer D. Walker is investigating.

THEFT: On Feb. 4 at 5:15 p.m., Officer J. Timko was taking a report for a theft that had previously occurred at Hecht's located at 11200 Mall Circle in Waldorf when a loss prevention officer advised him of an unrelated theft in progress. Two Fort Washington girls, ages 14 and 16, concealed jewelry and attempted to leave the store without paying. The loss prevention officer escorted the girls to the security office, where Officer Timko charged the younger girl with theft less than $500 and the older girl with theft less than $100. The girls were released to their parents.

THEFT FROM MOTOR VEHICLE: Sometime between 10:45 p.m. Feb. 3 and 8 a.m. Feb. 4, suspect(s) forced entry into a vehicle in the 2700 block of Grindall Court in Waldorf and stole property. The suspect(s) then wrapped the vehicle in plastic and poured chocolate syrup on it. SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY: Sometime between 7 p.m. Feb. 3 and 9:45 a.m. Feb. 4, someone left a threatening note on a vehicle in the 2000 block of St. Thomas Drive in Waldorf. The note made references to MS-13. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff's Office at 301-932-7777. Officer D. Snyder is investigating.

THEFT: On Feb. 3 at 6:30 p.m., Officer J. Timko responded to Sports Authority located at 3326 Crain Highway in Waldorf for the theft report. Investigation revealed three La Plata boys, ages 12, 13 and 16, concealed a package of 100 protector sleeves and attempted to leave the store without paying. Loss prevention officers detained the boys until Officer Timko arrived. They were charged with theft less than $100 and were released to their parents.

THEFT/DRUG POSSESSION: On Feb. 2 at 4 p.m., Officer J. Timko responded to Hecht's at 11200 Mall Circle in Waldorf for the report of a shoplifter in custody. Investigation revealed Rachel Karen Dean, 23, of Waldorf, concealed perfume and clothing and attempted to leave the store without paying. A loss prevention officer detained her and discovered she was in possession of drugs and paraphernalia. Officer Timko arrested Dean and charged her with theft less than $500, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia and was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the district court commissioner.

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY: On Feb. 1 at approximately 3 p.m., a 21-year-old Oxon Hill man was in the parking lot of Loews Cineplex located at 11115 Mall Circle in Waldorf when a male suspect approached him about speakers the suspect wanted sell. The suspect told the victim he had two Skyline-brand speakers left over from a job site and wanted to sell them. When the suspect produced a work order, the victim believed the sale was legitimate and accepted the offer to buy the speakers. When the victim took the speakers home, he discovered they did not work properly. He then went to the Waldorf District Station to report this incident. The suspect is described only as a white male driving an older-model burgundy Dodge or Chrysler minivan. TRESPASSING: Between 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., Jermaine Valentino Fontanelle, 21, of Fort Washington and W.C. Horton, 28, of Waldorf trespassed on the property of Gallery Place Apartments located on Gallery Place in Waldorf after being ordered on Jan. 31 by security and management not to return. Fontanelle and Horton were charged with trespassing and were being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending appearances before the district court commissioner. Officer D. Walker investigated.

THEFT FROM A MOTOR VEHICLE: Sometime between 9 p.m. Jan. 31 and 11:30 a.m. Feb. 3, suspect(s) stole a car stereo face plate and remote control from a vehicle parked in the 1100 block of Heritage Place in Waldorf. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff's Office at 301-932-7777. Officer D. Snyder is investigating.

THEFT: On Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m., Officer C. Strafella responded to Best Buy located at 11725 Berry Road in Waldorf for the report of a shoplifting in progress. Investigation revealed Dwayne Anthony Smiley, 19, of Upper Marlboro concealed a compact disc and attempted to leave the story without paying. When loss prevention officers attempted to detain him, he attempted to flee, assaulting a 21-year-old loss prevention officer. Officer Strafella arrived and arrested Smiley. Smiley was charged with second-degree assault and theft less than $100.

DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY: Sometime between 4 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Jan. 29, suspect(s) damaged the fence at a residence in the 1100 block of Heritage Place in Waldorf. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff's Office at 301-932-7777. Officer D. Snyder is investigating.

DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY: Sometime between 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Jan. 29, suspect(s) scratched the paint on the hoods and trunks of 11 vehicles parked in row in the 2600 block of Hamilton Place in Waldorf. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff's Office at 301-932-7777. Officer D. Snyder is investigating.
