Three More Armed Robberies in Waldorf


ARMED ROBBERY: On Jan. 28 at 10:23 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to La Quinta Inn at 11700 Business Park Drive in Waldorf for the report of a fight involving knives. Upon arrival, officers detained eight people who were in the parking lot. Investigation revealed the individuals, who are familiar with each other, were arguing when one of them, Jermaine Tito Benjamin, 25, of Indian Head, brandished a knife while another, Benjamin Ray Burton, 19, of La Plata, stole money from the pockets of two other men. Benjamin and Burton were arrested and charged with armed robbery and second degree assault and are being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending appearances before the District Court Commissioner. The victims, a 19-year-old Nanjemoy man and an 18-year-old Faulkner man, were not injured. Officer R. Garrett investigated.

ARMED ROBBERY: On Jan. 28 at 9:06 p.m., a 17-year-old Lusby girl was walking to her vehicle in the parking lot of St. Charles Towne Center at 11110 Mall Circle in Waldorf when a man approached her, implied he had a gun and demanded money. The girl complied and the man fled with an disclosed amount of money in a black Ford Explorer bearing Virginia registration "WRETHA". The girl followed the vehicle as she called the police and kept updating her location. Charles County Sheriff's officers and Maryland State Police troopers located the suspect vehicle on southbound Crain Highway near WW Industrial Drive in La Plata, conducted a traffic stop and arrested the suspect without incident. The man was identified as Wesley Matel Haynie, 19, of Heathsville, Va., and was charged with armed robbery and theft less than $100. Haynie is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner. Det. F. P. Tona investigated.

ARMED ROBBERY: On Jan. 27 at 8:40 p.m., a man approached a 21-year-old Waldorf man in the stairway of an apartment building in the 2000 block of Amberleaf Place in Waldorf, brandished a handgun and demanded money. The victim complied. A second victim advised the suspect he had nothing to give. The suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of money and the first victim's cell phone. The victim then reported the incident at the Charles County Sheriff's Office La Plata District Station. Members of the Tactical Response Squad checked the area where the robbery occurred but did not locate the suspect. The second victim did not report the robbery and the Sheriff's Office has little information regarding his identity. The suspect is described as a black male between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall and was wearing a black ski mask and a black North Face jacket.
