WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.) today welcomed Richard A. Myers as Special Assistant to the Senator for Southern Maryland.
"I am extremely pleased to have Richard Myers join my staff. He will be my catcher's mitt in Southern Maryland - the first call for my constituents in the region," said Senator Mikulski. "He has the experience and the enthusiasm to serve Southern Maryland well. I know he will be a valuable addition to our team."
Myers will be Senator Mikulski's eyes and ears in Southern Maryland -meeting with constituents and ensuring their views are heard. He will help the Senator to strengthen Southern Maryland's innovation economy -the new jobs and opportunities that will strengthen the region in the future. He will also help keep the region aware of what Senator Mikulski is doing on Capitol Hill to meet the day-to-day and long range needs of Southern Marylanders.
Myers spent 30 years in local government and local media. He has worked for Maryland State Senator Roy Dyson (D-St. Mary's, Calvert and Charles). He has also worked as a grants development specialist for the College of Southern Maryland and a grants administrator for the Town of Leonardtown, Md. He spent six years in the U.S. Army Reserves.
A lifelong resident of Southern Maryland, he has worked for: The Calvert Independent newspaper, St. Mary's Today newspaper, the St. Mary's Countian newspaper, Bay Media Network, Chesapeake Publishing Company, Cable TV 10, WVES Radio, WSMD Radio, WPTX/WMDM Radio, WMMW Radio and WKIK Radio.
