On Jan. 1 at 1:31 a.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to the area of Caroline Drive and Goose Creek Drive in La Plata for the report of disorderly people preparing to fight. Upon arrival, officers observed Arnold Jeffery Mason, 19, of La Plata walking down nearby Potomac Street yelling profanities. Officers ordered him to stop but Mason continued to yell profanities.
When Sgt. D. Bacon attempted to arrest Mason. Mason became combative and assaulted Sgt. Bacon. Other officers responded and Mason was quickly subdued and taken into custody. Officers charged him with assault on a police officer, second degree assault, failure to obey a lawful order and disorderly conduct. He is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner. Officer C. Figgins investigated.
