St. Leonard resident Nancy Zinn was recently selected to fill the seat vacated by retiring Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) director John W. Jack Williams, Jr. Williams, who represented Calvert County, has served on SMECOs Board of Directors since 1958; his retirement is effective January 1.
Zinn is the Purchasing Supervisor for Calvert County Public Schools and was previously employed by H.G. Trueman Lumber Company and the Department of the Navy. She also served as a member of the Calvert County Board of Education, acting as vice president from 1982 to 1983. Zinn was also a member and past chairman of the Calvert County Planning Commission. She is active in numerous civic and business organizations, and she was chosen as the Calvert Business and Professional Womens Woman of the Year for 1985. She is a graduate of the Calvert County Campus of the College of Southern Maryland. Zinn, a lifelong resident of Calvert County, has two children and a grandchild.
A committee of directors from Calvert County selected Zinn from a pool of applicants for the position in accordance with Cooperative Board Policy 1-7.1. She will be sworn in at the regularly scheduled SMECO Board meeting in January.
