Stolen Land Rover Found in River in Indian Head


On Dec. 26 at 4:03 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to the end of Poplar Lane in Indian Head for the report of a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, Officer M. O'Shields discovered a 1996 Land Rover had left the roadway, fallen down a 30-foot cliff, landed in the shoreline of the river below and become partially submerged in the water. Officer O'Shields descended the cliff to check the vehicle for occupants but found it unoccupied.

Further investigation revealed the vehicle was reported stolen in Charles County on Dec.25. Officers searched the area but did not locate any suspects. Officer O'Shields sustained a minor injury. Emergency Medical Services personnel treated him at the scene. Anyone with information about the stolen vehicle or subsequent crash is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff's Office at 301-743-2222.
