Christmas Trees To Be Recycled And Ground Into Mulch

Once again, Christmas Trees will be collected at the St. Mary's County Landfill and Convenience Centers at the end of the holiday season, free of charge. Undecorated trees may be placed in designated areas beginning on December 26, 2005, and continuing through January 31, 2006. These discarded trees will be ground into mulch.

At the close of the 2004 holiday season, the County collected nearly 16 tons of Christmas Trees at the Convenience Centers. The mulch from these trees, as well as the on-going yard waste collection at the landfill, is used by the Department of Recreation & Parks and the Department of Public Works & Transportation in maintaining County property. In addition, mulch is free to the citizens of St. Mary's County while supplies last.

For more information about the County's recycling program, contact the St. Mary's County Department of Public Works & Transportation at (301) 863-8400 or visit the County website www.co.saint-marys.md.us .
