On Dec. 14 at 11:55 a.m., a Ford sport-utility vehicle driven by Patricia Rhone Martin, 55, of Cobb Island, was traveling north in the 6800 block of Crain Highway in La Plata and attempted to turn into the parking lot of the Sheriff's Office La Plata District Station.
The SUV crossed the path of a Ford truck traveling southbound on Crain Highway and being driven by Joseph Allen Haberkorn, 45, of Alexandria, Va. The vehicles collided in the intersection and the SUV subsequently struck a Sheriff's Office cruiser that was stopped at the stop sign waiting to exit the parking lot and being driven by Officer Jeremy Timko, 26, of La Plata.
Martin sustained incapacitating injuries and was flown by a Maryland State Police helicopter to Prince George's Hospital Center. Her injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Haberkorn, a passenger in the truck - Jason Torzok, 29, of York, Pa. - Timko, and a passenger in the cruiser, Kristen Timko, 23, of La Plata, were not injured.
