17-year-old Flees on way to Court; Apprehended Shortly Thereafter

On Nov. 23 at approximately 11 a.m., a woman brought her 17-year-old Capitol Heights son to the Charles County Courthouse at 200 Charles Street in La Plata for a court proceeding. The boy was wanted on contempt charges and refused to leave his mother's car and enter the Courthouse. His mother told the Sheriff's Court Security Officers that her son was refusing to enter the Courthouse.

As the officers approached the boy, he fled on foot. Sheriff's officers responded and conducted a search for the boy. Shortly thereafter, warrant officers found him near a building in the 6300 block of Crain Highway and apprehended him after a brief foot chase through the woods. They served the warrants and returned the boy to the Courthouse, where he appeared before a judge who ordered him to be detained at the Cheltenham Youth Facility.
