School Bus Crash in Mechanicsville

On Nov. 18 at 4:04 p.m., a 2005 Dodge Caravan driven by Shirley Marie Truesdale, 27, of Mechanicsville was stopped in the northbound lane of Hamilton Road in Waldorf to allow a Charles County school bus to make a left turn from Timberbrook Drive onto Hamilton Road. A 1991 Honda Accord traveling north on Hamilton Road swerved into the southbound lane of Hamilton Road as it approached the bus and the Caravan, and struck both vehicles.

The driver of the school bus, Elizabeth Patricia Smith, 50, of Newburg, and the 29 elementary school students the bus was transporting were not injured.

Truesdale and the driver of the Accord, Aldrany Tashara Willis, 28, of Cutbert, Ga., were also not injured.

Willis was issued a citation for failure to drive right of center. Officer R. Glover of the Traffic Operations Unit investigated.
