11/07/05 12:45 a.m. - A Maryland Transportation Authority Police Lieutenant stopped a vehicle on U.S. Rt. 301, south of MD Rt. 6, for traveling over 100 mph. TFC J. Oros responded and took over the traffic stop.
The driver identified himself as Akeem Olajuwon Peterson, 22 years, of Washington, D.C. He did not have a driver's license in his possession, and could not produce the vehicle's registration. A computer check revealed Mr. Peterson was driving on a suspended license.
The owner of the vehicle was contacted and stated that he did not give anyone permission to drive his vehicle and that the keys to his vehicle was inside his residence.
An investigation revealed that Mr. Peterson had burglarized the owner's home in Prince George's County and stole the keys to the vehicle. He also took other items from the home, valued over $500.00, that was recovered and returned to the owner.
Mr. Peterson was arrested and charged with theft over $500 and unlawful taking of a motor vehicle. He was incarcerated in the Charles County Detention Center pending a bond review.
