St. Mary's County Board of Commissioners, the Town of Leonardtown, and parade organizers invite the public to come out and salute America's Veterans at the Annual Veterans Day Parade in Leonardtown, on Friday, November 11, 2005!
The parade will begin at 10:00 a.m., on Washington Street and will feature more than 4,000 participants, including Veterans, dignitaries, elected officials, local school marching bands, military units, color guards, bagpipers, Native American dancers, classic and antique cars, boy scouts, girl scouts, cheerleaders, horses, motorcycles, fire, police, emergency personnel and equipment, and more!
You won't want to miss a special appearance of an 8-hitch team of Clydesdales from Anheuser-Busch at this year's parade! Also, the St. Mary's County Hurricane Relief Fund will be on site to provide information in support of Operation Mississippi Christmas. Immediately following the parade, a Veterans Memorial Ceremony with speakers, Veterans, taps and laying of wreaths will be held on the Town Square.
Parade participants are requested to arrive by 9:00 a.m. at the staging area at Church and Washington Street and check in with parade coordinators for their line-up assignment. Please note that Washington Street will be closed to INCOMING traffic only in the morning. Participants driving into the downtown should enter from Rt. 5 via Lawrence Avenue or Fenwick Street at Ryken Hill.
The public is encouraged to use the round-trip bus service that will be provided from the St. Mary's County Fairgrounds parking lot into downtown as downtown parking will be limited. Volunteers will be on hand to assist with parking directions and street detours. The parade will proceed on Washington Street through the downtown, and end on Courthouse Drive.
