SMCG Collects Telephone Books for Recycling

The St. Mary's County Department of Public Works & Transportation Recycling Program is collecting telephone books for recycling. Residents can drop off telephone books at the designated recycling containers set up at all of the six (6) Convenience Centers located in Charlotte Hall, St. Andrew's, Ridge, Clements, Valley Lee and Oakville. Telephone books will be accepted now through March 31, 2006.

This year, approximately 60,000 new telephone books will be distributed throughout St. Mary's County. Paper products comprise the largest percentage of the County's waste stream by weight. Collecting telephone books will help keep this reusable resource out of the landfill. Old telephone books can be made into ceiling tiles, pizza cartons, comic books and even new telephone books!
