Senator Barbara A. Mikulski released the following statement today following the indictment of Vice President Dick Cheney's Chief of Staff, Lewis Libby:
"These indictments are grave, disturbing and shocking. The Vice President's Chief of Staff is accused of lying in an investigation of the leaking of classified information. As a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, I know the gravity of this charge.
"It also appears that this is part of a larger strategy by senior White House staff to manipulate the information that falsely led America into war.
"I commend Special Counsel Fitzgerald for conducting an independent investigation."
